Apply for free basic water and sanitation for old age homes and shelters
The City provides free basic water and sewerage to old age homes, homeless shelters, and homes for the physically or mentally disabled.
How to apply: old age homes
People accommodated in old age homes, homeless shelters and homes for the physically or mentally challenged qualify for a monthly component of 0,75 kilolitres (750 litres) of free basic water per person and 0,525 kilolitres (525 litres) of free basic sewerage per person.
Step 1: Download and complete the Age Homes Affidavit from the document centre below.
Step 2: Submit it and your documentation at any of the
City’s walk-in centres. The affidavit must be signed by a commissioner of oaths.
Include with your application:
- a copy of the home's municipal account; and
- documents confirming its status as a registered old age home.
A City of Cape Town water inspector will conduct an inspection of the property and will verify the number of beds. The application will be processed and the City will notify you of the outcome.
How to apply: homeless shelters or homes for the physically/mentally disabled
Remember
Homeless shelters and homes catering for the health of physically or mentally challenged individuals must be registered with the Council’s Homeless Agency Committee (Homac).
Step 1: Download and complete the Homes for the Physically or Mentally Challenged Individuals Affidavit Form at the bottom of the page.
Step 2: Submit the completed form at any of the
City’s walk-in centres. The affidavit must be signed by a commissioner of oaths.
Include with your application:
- a copy of home/shelter's municipal account; and
- documents confirming the shelter’s registration with Council’s Homeless Agency Committee (Homac).
